Miss Lilacs Garden is one of my favorite mixed media art pieces. She started with this very beautiful make believe bird I imagined. From there she keep getting more fancy, I added torn pieces from other paintings I had created, Leafs from a watercolor painting. I then decided to take some cotton fabric and bunch it around the edges and hand stitch it to the sides of the watercolor paper with vintage glass seed beads and crystals. Well I just could not stop there so I created a bigger painting of watercolor leafs with touches of metallic gold accents. I adore the way Miss Lilac came to life.
The details are many and she is so pretty in person. Multi layered with love + metallic gold + a love for all things hope filled with light.

Her name came from growing up in Iowa. My mom always hung our clothes out to dry on clotheslines - they were next to a row of lilac trees. So my clothes and bedding always had a soft sent of Lilacs. This painting is a tribute to my mom who always made my life more lovely with simple loves.
